Charles Smith “Boom Boom” Syrah 2006, Washington State
Like the song, like the band, this wine is bold, brash, cheeky and brilliant. Don’t dismiss it because of the (awesome) label, the Boom Boom Syrah bridges the Old-World Syrah/New World Shiraz conundrum, chock full of blueberries, mocha, currants, cherries and an extra shot of espresso at the end. It’s big, it’s fairly hot -but it all ties in together. Have it with anything big and unapologetic, a massive steak, a crazy-ass spicy chili or even Blue Cheese Doritos. It’s around 29 bucks in private wine stores around Vancouver ( I got it at The Wine Thief by Steamworks in Gastown ).
You’ll have to brush your teeth for ten minutes after a couple glasses, but well worth it…
