2007 Francis Coppola “Sofia” Carneros Pinot Noir Rosé $28-ish
Okay, it’s not too much of a stretch here. From the Francis Coppola winery comes “Sofia”, this lovely bone-dry pink wine made from 100% Carneros Pinot Noir. There’s some lovely jasmine and gardenia floral notes on the nose (typical of the region), and they lead to rich blood orange, raspberry and zippy lime zest on the palate. Elegant and feminine, but sturdy and confident at the same time. I love this wine.
The Virgin Suicides is one of my favourite movies. Based on the Jeffrey Eugenides book of the same name, Sofia Coppola really hit her stride with this one, her directorial debut. From the awesome opening titles to the overall scope, script, mood and everything – she really created a beautiful piece of work. If you haven’t seen it, please do. The soundtrack is by Air, and Playground Love (in the video above) really embodied the spirit of the film. I really think it jives with the style of the wine as well, if you put your ear to the bottle – you can almost hear the haunting and beautiful melodies that fill the soundtrack.
