In mere hours I’ll sit down to write the exam for WSET Diploma Unit 2. This isn’t an exceptionally large or overly difficult exam to pass (particularly for me as I’ve taken somewhat equivalent education), but today I’ve been mentally preparing and attempting to retain some stubborn facts which seem to mostly involve chemistry (What the hell does Phosphomolybdic Acid do again?) I’ve had a little splash of Claus Preisinger’s brilliant Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay blend, Heideboden 2006, to keep me inspired (much more on Claus and his delicious wines in the near future).
I’m thrilled to put David Bird’s invaluable and comprehensive tool “Understanding Wine Technology” back on the shelf and pick up some books that don’t even mention the method for tartrating volatile acidity. I have Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and Jonathan Lethem’s “The Fortress of Solitude” waiting in the queue (perhaps all this confined studying makes me want to read books with the word “solitude” in the title?). Plus I’m probably one of the first people in 30 years to be excited about reading the book “Sherry” by Julian Jeffs written in ‘61.
I think for a celebratory wine Jean Foillard’s Morgon ‘Côte du Py’ might get itself opened. More on this soon also, I’ve got to get back to cramming.
