I’ve done the European backpacking thing while painfully toting around the heavy hardcover wine books (Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia was one). Later in September, a new version of The World Atlas of Wine will be released called the Concise World Atlas of Wine. It will be a paperback version and little more compact, yet still including all the maps; perfect for traveling with, and for only $25 if you order online from the Chapters site. I think I’m going to upgrade my weighty 5th edition for one – it actually looks like it’s in stock now on Amazon and Chapters. Here’s a video of Jancis announcing it.
