Coming soon, September 24th in fact, is the Sonoma In The City event which will have the full range of styles from Dry Creek to Russian River. The event is mainly at the brand spankin’ new (and incredible) Vancouver Convention Centre West, and promises to be pretty damn delicious.
There’s a Media & Trade Seminar, a Trade Tasting and a Consumer Tasting. Info on prices and particulars can be found on their site at CalWine.ca
Things I won’t miss:
Buena Vista Carneros Ramal Vineyard Pinot Noir - A Dijon clone I’ve heard legend of.
Buena Vista Carneros Ramal Vineyard Syrah - Took Gold at the San Francisco Int’l Wine Competion. Good enough for me.
Everything from Flowers Winery - It’s owned by Walt & Joan Flowers, and those just sound like the names of real good folk.
Foppiano Petite Sirah - The ‘95 edition was the wine that made me love wine. My palate has strayed since then, but I always like to check in.
Anything from the Coppola Winery - Because what many dismiss as a vanity project actually produces some fantastic, interesting juice.
Gloria Ferrer Bubble - Excellent bubble and a very sweet family from a long line of Spanish winemakers.
Schug Pinot Noir Rosé - Because I love Pinot Noir Rosé
Rodney Strong Reds - Because I always find them over-extracted and too sweet, yet for some reason always feel the need to double check that I’m not a fan.
Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnays - They’re like big Jerry Bruckheimer productions with enormous CGI explosions and tons of hot chicks and you shouldn’t really like them, but MAN they’re fun!
Thomas George Viognier - I’ve heard it’s incredible.
Thomas George 2007 Allen Vineyard Pinot Noir - Because it’s expensive and I know nothing about it.
See you there!

[...] The Sonoma in the City trade tasting is today from 2:30-5:00. There’s going to be some awesome producers pouring some great wine that you wouldn’t typically have access to. We’re both excited about it and so is nearly every other wine person I’ve talked to recently. Check out Kurtis’ “Things I wont miss.” [...]
