Yesterday, Eric Asimov published a high profile and fairly entertaining article on Gary Vaynerchuk in the New York Times and also followed it up with a post on his blog The Pour. This morning Steve Heimoff also did a little Vaynerchuk writeup on his website as well.
Writers tend to include the phrase “you either love him or you hate him” in nearly every article I read about the guy, yet I don’t find myself fitting into this assumption. Yes, I remember grimacing through the first few episodes I watched of WLTV (somewhere around #300) - just like everyone else, but eventually it grew on me. His show is entertaining and while I certainly don’t take everything he says to heart, I do trust his palate to some degree. That’s right - while I read a lot of what Jancis Robinson has to say, I’ll also enjoy the odd episode of WLTV….why do people have to be pitted in one camp or the other?
Almost seemingly as a backlash to all the attention over the last couple days (look at his grin on the opening photo!), he posts show #734 yesterday called “What Wine Pairs With Cereal?” When was the last time Jancis did that?!
Here’s the episode when Rhys Pender brings some Okanagan wines onto the show.
Probably my favourite WLTV clip of all time is when Gary tastes the Voga Pinot Gris.
