The Sonoma in the City trade tasting is today from 2:30-5:00. There’s going to be some awesome producers pouring some great wine that you wouldn’t typically have access to. We’re both excited about it and so is nearly every other wine person I’ve talked to recently. Check out Kurtis’ “Things I wont miss.”
Today Jancis Robinson posts “Canadian labelling saga gathers steam” with a lot of links to the recent media attention around “Cellared in Canada.” Plus there was a new article in the Sun yesterday that I hadn’t seen called “Wine consumers ‘dumbfounded’ over faux B.C. wines” where they craftily use her photo and credit it with their own (yeah, yeah – I used her photo too…but I at least credited her, okay?).
Last night I brought a bottle of Vieux Télégraphe ’07 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc to a lovely gathering with friends. I think it was my first time tasting white CnP and it was definitely ranked up there with being the most minerally wine I’ve ever had. Chalk and crushed rocks with a heavy doughy/leesy character all over top of Asian pears. Quite rich with great acidity. I truely enjoyed and relished every taste of what I’d consider to be a thinking wine. I can’t wait to try it again 8-10 years from now as I’m sure it will evolve dramatically.
