My wife and I had to run some errands at Metrotown last week on a ridiculously busy Saturday afternoon, which is about as fun as a kick in the nuts.
One of the last stops, as stress and exhaustion set in and before we totally hit our wall was Superstore where, incidentally, you can find great bath towels at awesome prices.
But this isn’t a website about bath towels, now is it?
On our way out of the store, I noticed something that surprised me. There was a wine shop right across the mall from us. Now, I can’t even tell you why this surprised me, I’m just being honest.
There it was, so shiny it practically glowed:

A closer look revealed it to be a Mark Anthony Wine Store, meaning it only sold Mission Hill product.
They do have everything under the Mission Hill umbrella, which also includes the slightly more boutique-y Prospect Winery stuff, which is fairly decent and accessibly priced. These wines have even shown quite well at the Decanter World Wine Awards and are usually in the $14-$18. They rarely disappoint.
A closer look around revealed this:

The Prospect Winery Pinot Noir for a “Lowest Price Anywhere” $10.99?
Dude.
As long as it wasn’t plonk, that would be quite the steal.
Fast forward one hour later:

Yum.
This is a lighter one, to be sure. Definitely softer berries on the palate – salmonberries, huckleberries, raspberries, that sort of thing. It’s bright and easily drinkable with slight elements of nutmeg, cloves and maybe a bit of a cherry cola thing going on as well. Soft tannins, great acidity, and for $10.99?
Seriously.
I probably won’t complain next time we need towels.
