Best of BC Fall Release

Today, BC Liquor Stores has launched their “Best of BC Fall Release” where they have partnered up with local wineries to offer higher-end and smaller production wines for a limited time. There are 26 wines available at the Signature stores as well as select regular stores, which are not normally stocked on the shelves.

Here’s the PDF brochure with the full list of wine on offer.

Here are the standouts that I’d be inclined to pickup:

Burrowing Owl ‘06 Cabernet Sauvignon - Fully ripened, dark purple fruit with dark chocolate. One of my favourite BC Cabs, but expect a big price tag as well. $38 Check Availability.

Inniskillin Okanagan Discovery Series ‘07 Malbec - I haven’t their Malbec or Pinotage, but I’d love to give them a whirl (especially after my revelation with BC Pinotage). The Malbec is reasonably priced at $25 (Check Availability) and the Pinotage is a five bucks more at $30 (Availability). Side Note: Why can’t someone with as much money as Inniskillin build a better website?? Here’s my email

Laughing Stock ‘06 Portfolio - David Enns makes this full bodied and structured Bordeaux blend to last and this might be the best vintage yet. I’m actually a little surprised to see it on offer at the BCLDB with the kind of following it has. John Schreiner has a funny story on his blog about the Portfolio’s “Recession-Proof Pricing” scheme that almost saved us all some money. Buy it to put away for a couple years. $39 (Availability)

Also, there are only 7 Osoyoos Larose ‘06 double magnums available for $195.00 (a pretty decent price actually), can someone please buy one and invite me over for dinner in 10 years??

Like I say, I could keep going as I’m intrigued to try many more of these wines. Most aren’t expected to last much longer than a week so get to 39th and Cambie, Thurlow and Alberni, or whatever your closest Signature store is and check out the selection sooner than later.

I don’t know why Laughin Stock is releasing the 2006, They did this last year via Mailing list and there 2007 are coming out soon unless they are unloading Product (Tho it is showing nicely currently think I have 4 bottles left)

As for the Osoyoos Larose I havea 2004 and 2006 Magnum but..a double argh. I just want a Double Magnum of the 2007 and maybe 2 of the Regular as I heard its the best so far

Yeah I wondered too. I’m guessing it was an extra 50 cases or so that they didn’t sell directly and the LDB took it, or perhaps they worked it out previously so they could release it when it was more drinkable. No idea. Anyone?

I’ve got a few bottles of previous vintages of Osoyoos too… I think ‘03 and ‘04 - I wanted to leave the ‘03 until next year but I’m sure it’s getting close. Personally, I haven’t tried the ‘07 yet.
