(Circa 1983 – Misfits playing “Halloween” and “Horror Business” in Detroit. If you want a video that you can actually hear the music try this one from ’97)
A friend of mine and I love drinking Sherry and listening to the gritty horror-punk music of the Misfits (preferably Danzig era of ’78-’83, but I’m not a hater). Not because they particularly complement each other, but they are just two things we both like, and why not combine them.
I think this Halloween, I’ll drink La Gitana Manzanilla and last night’s leftover Arbois from Puffeney (which blew my mind by the way and I cant wait to see how it’s evolved…but more on this soon). If you’re getting candy involved then why not go for some sweetened Oloroso… the nutty, molasses and brown sugar characters of Williams & Humbert Walnut Brown Oloroso with mini chocolate bars, Tootsie Rolls, M&Ms and all the other garbage kids eat? Brilliant. (If you’re in BC, Walnut Brown is only $17 at the BCLDB). Or, if you’re in the mood to spend more, you can get refined with spicy, raisinated, nutty, deliciousness in the form of Lustau’s East India Solera ($37 in BC and about $25 in San Francisco).
Whatever you end up listening to or drinking today enjoy yourselves!
Try the Emilim Moscatel from Lustau – it picks up where the Old East India leaves off and kicks up the raisiny/moloasses goodness several notches.
Thicker than motor oil and so sweet it makes your teeth hurt.
In Spain we would soak our raisins in the stuff overnight and then put the raisins on some vanilla ice cream and top it off with a drizzle of the Moscatel – DECADENT!
Great suggestion…the Emilin Moscatel IS delicious. Definitely an ice cream wine pairing to keep in mind.
