I had a bottle of Domaine Huet Brut 2002 Vouvray Pétillant, and although still a touch too ill to fully appreciate it, I was able to recognize that it was damn good. This is lightly sparkling Chenin Blanc from France’s Loire Valley made in the traditional method. The colour is a beautiful golden yellow and the nose has tell-tale Chenin Blanc character of honeycomb with some great biscuity aromas. This wine has a lovely richness to it and as you’d expect form the Loire, it has fantastic acidity. If you still aren’t acquainted with Domaine Huet, you should pick some up and give it a whirl. They cover the Chenin Blanc gamut with bubbly, dry and sweet styles all farmed biodynamically.

If you’re in Vancouver, Marquis and Kits Wine Cellar are both good places to find Huet, although I haven’t yet seen this particular bottle in BC. I found 02 Vouvray Pétillant at Bi-Rite in San Francisco for $29.99.

Thanks Khristian, Happy New Year to you as well.

Wow, great to see some very old back vintages of Huet…. I’d love to try a splash of some 60-year-old Chenin.
