Okay, this is gonna be a quick one because we’re right in the middle of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and if I’m not working at Salt, I’m enjoying Olympic hoopla, and if I’m not enjoying Olympic hoopla, I’m sleeping. Those are the three things I do these days and I’m totally not complaining.
One of the most fun things we’ve been doing (besides watching the Colbert Report, top left) is hitting all the provincial and country pavilions and enjoying all the beer, wine and food. We’ve heard the wines at Slovak House are phenomenal, but we haven’t had the chance yet.
Two notable favourites, though.

Visit Ontario House (we saw The Great Lake Swimmers there last night, fantastic show) and have a delicious glass of Jackson-Triggs’ 2007 Delaine Vineyard Niagra Riesling. So delicious, with lime, petrol, sweet nougat and a ribbon of acid spun through it. Six bucks is a STEAL, and this is your only chance to drink it on the West Coast!

Also, Atlantic House on Granville Island features many East Coast microbrews on tap, plus a variety of Atlantic wines by the glass. Knowing nothing, really, about the region I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the Jost Vineyards 2007 Eagle Tree Muscat from Nova Scotia. Definite pineapple and spiced honey, plus the thing’s quite fresh and cheery. I’m totally going back to try more stuff.
I’ve also heard Slovak House’s wines are incredible and look forward to exploring more and more as these crazy days continue….

Just don’t drink beer at Saxony House - $9 for a plastic glass of shitty pilsner.

The Delaine Vineyard Riesling went on sale in Ontario three weekends ago for $11 a bottle! Fantastic wine.
