Michel Rolland vs Olive Oil

Despite being about olive oil, this does have a strong wine connection... wait for it…

The southern Spanish olive oil producer La Amarilla de Ronda has enlisted the help of two very famous outsiders. One is French industrial designer Phillippe Starck, who has designed everything from juicers and stools to hotels and is responsible for the new packaging. The other is the highly employed wine consultant Michel Rolland, who is often vilified for encouraging the use of many modern technical processes in the winery and contributing to a world of a uniformed wine style. There is no doubt that the wines he influences usually end up being blockbusters (he tends to work with the Bordeaux varietals even outside of Bordeaux where he has over 100 clients) and works with big international names such as Nicolas Catena, Clos de Los Siete, Harlan, Araujo, and locally, Mission Hill, which all tend to garnish high points from folks like Parker. Michel is renowned for his palate, so it sort of makes sense that La Amarilla de Ronda would get someone like him to taste through various oils to make the best food friendly blends (plus a little PR cant hurt). Does this mean olive oils are becoming ‘Parkerized?’
