‘The Trip’ Hits Vancouver!

I saw two of my favourite movies of 2011 (so far) within a couple days of one another, the first being Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris (I’m loving his whole European canon of late, Match Point and Vicky Christina Barcelona shot right up to my Woody Allen Top 5), but the second is finally getting a theatre run in Vancouver at Fifth Avenue Cinemas, Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip!

With similar charm and meta nods as his wonderful 24 Hour Party People, The Trip chronicles a week-long road trip by Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as Coogan does a culinary tour of England on assignment for the Observer which allows the film’s constant witty dialogue and epic scenery to be punctuated with culinary delight, from great wines to jaw-dropping molecular gastronomy.

The film was stitched together from the BBC’s series of the same name, was well-received at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been lauded by critics globally.

Heartily recommended, please go!
